Purdy Corp. began in 1925 when S. Desmond Purdy began building paint brushes with an unwavering commitment to quality and attention to detail. Today, Purdy maintains that tradition with a staff of dedicated brushmakers who still apply their personal decals to each brush, so you know who made your paint brush. Purdy manufactures paint brushes, roller covers, roller frames, prep tools and accessories. The company employs 450 people at its two locations.

1925 |
S. Desmond Purdy started company in converted 2-car garage. |
1965 |
David Howard Sr. assumes presidency and begins major growth campaign and eventually
Purdy products are sold in all 50 states. |
1994 |
RAF Industries acquired Purdy after David Howard Sr. elected to retire |
1998 |
RAF sold a majority of its share in Purdy to Bessemer Holdings. Bessemer Holdings’
division Paint Sundry Brands includes Purdy and Bestt Liebco brands. |
2005 |
Sherwin Corporations purchased Paint Sundry Brands from Bessemer Holdings. Paint
Sundry Brands included Purdy, Symphony, and Bestt Liebco. Purdy is part of the Sherwin Williams consumer group. |
2006 |
Introduction of the“XL Cub”series of short-handled paint brushes, with first flush-fit-ferrule design for professional painters.
Introduction of Professional Grade Extension Poles that are lightweight and lock into place with virtually no flex. |
2007 |
Purdy brand of professional painting tools received the 2007 Frost & Sullivan United States Paint Contractors’ Choice Award for Best Overall Brushes.
Purdy introduces new Chinex® filament brushes and Colossus™ roller covers. |
